Mad For Plaid.

It seems that Kurt Cobain got a head start on one of this years biggest trends - and it does not look like it is going anywhere soon.

Lumberjacks rejoice - plaid is here to stay.

From runways to road-side truck stops, plaids are popping up all over the place. I'm talking shirts, pants, shoes, accessories, even underwear!

It's amazing that tartan is making such a huge comeback - seeing as how in the early 90's it was viewed as a staple for the Seattle grunge scene. Oversized shirts, baggy pants, and a backwards cap didn't do the fabric justice. Now that some major fashion brands have put a new spin on the old pattern, it's breathing new life.

Now I am not saying that you can't rock a simple tartan button-down with a pair of denim - but that look is so cliche. Let's try a little harder. Taking a bold plaid pattern and placing it on a skirt matched with a solid white blouse, a denim distressed jacket, and a neutral legging is a nice casual look for the windy winter days that lay ahead. If you are not looking to rock an outfit - try a layering piece like a nice plaid peacoat or bomber jacket. Let it be the standout piece for your outfit.

Take This Tip:
Most plaids you find will be a strong pattern by itself and you might think that mixing another pattern would be a faux pas. Not the issue. Mixing differing patters is completely acceptable and quite frankly really stylish. Make sure you are not adding ANOTHER plaid print - a simple check or a minimal floral or geometric print could do the trick.

Now again, if you don't think you could rock an ensem of plaid, splash up your outfit with a pair of tartan printed shoes or a buffalo plaid scarf. It's just a little bit of color and can instantly class up your look - and the best part of it is if you grow uncomfortable with it you can be like Ke$ha and just take it off (get the reference?!)

Plaid has surpassed time - from hunters to haute coture, tartans will forever be in style - so invest in some great separates to pull out from time to time to stay with the trend.
