I may sound a little snobbish in saying this, but is this really being viewed as an acceptable form of fashion expression? Are people really doing this? Ask anyone on the street about their feelings of this "gangster way of wearing sandals" and you'll find that almost every person will answer with a grimace on their face and a shot to their heart.
The guys I see wearing them are the same everywhere I go. You're about 19 to 24, young and in-shape and probably recieved your varsity letter in high school before everyone else in your class. You're excessively tan, have tiny ankles, and can successfully add 2+2.
I get it, really I do. I used to be in your shoes (or sandals for that matter). At first glance I don't look like much of an athlete, but I was apart of my schools football team as a starter, letterd, and also held a record for shot put distance. After practice I understood that the last thing I wanted to do was worry about what I was wearing, but I stil took into consideration what I was putting on my feet.
The point of a sandal (especially an athletic sandal) is to let your vehicles breathe. I can accept the fact that you athletic supporters and participators wear your socks and sandals from the lockerroom to the car and vice versa, but that's where it should end.
Now, it seems that black socks and sandals are everywhere - walking to class, from class, malls, and I even saw a kid at a wedding wearing his classic Adidas sandals and matching socks. I couldn't be too awfully mad at him due to the fact that he was kind enough to coordinate his lables.
Have no fear ladies and gentleman, this problem is easily fixed - just take those socks off. Let your feet see the light of day because with all the time you spend on the court or the field, it would be a nice little treat to the ones who got you to where you are today.
"But Kenny, I wear them to keep my feet warm." Really? If that's the case, take your sandals and pack them away, because here in the Northwest, it gets colder faster and if you're feet are cold, you should probably be wearing galoshes and let go of the summer weather.
This fashion faux pas is quickly rising to the top of my list, almost up there with extremely cut off shirts and hats with the stickers still on them. I beg of you, for my sanity and the well-being of those who have to look at you, keep the socks between your foot and your shoes - after all, they were meant to be together.
